Desiree Borrero graduated from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 2000, with a Bachelor of Science in Visual Art, with a concentration in painting and ceramics. She then went on to complete an additional 40 credits and received her Art Education Certification in May of  2001.

In September of 2002, she became an art educator in the New York City Public School system, where she is currently employed. She teaches sixth thru twelfth grade at East Side Community High School, in the lower east side of Manhattan. Since arriving at East Side Community High School Desiree has created an intensive art program. She opened, with the support of the principal Mark Federman, The Loisaida Jill Herman Art Gallery, a permanent art gallery within the school. The gallery not only serves to exhibit the works of the young artists at the school, but in addition once a year invites local artist from New York City to display their work. Desiree, is also a Regional Trainer for The New York City Blueprint for Learning in the Arts. She facilitates workshops for other NYC Art Educators in order to enhance their teaching performance.

In May of 2007 Desiree completed a Masters of Art in Art Education from Brooklyn College. She has also been working on her own artwork, in her studio in Brooklyn, New York, where she is developing a large body of work to be shown in an upcoming exhibit. Her artwork has been greatly influenced by her travels through Europe, South America and Central America.
